West Papua Governor Discusses Inflation Control With The Minister Of Home Affairs And BPS, Chicken Prices Are A Concern

SORONG - The Governor of West Papua, Paulus Waterpaw, accompanied by Regent of Sorong, Yan Piet Mosso, a virtual meeting with Minister of Home Affairs, Tito Karnavian, regarding national inflation control.

As reported by Antara, the virtual inflation control meeting, Tuesday, August 30, was also accompanied by the Head of Regional Apparatus Organizations, both provincial and district of Sorong.

In the meeting chaired by the Minister of Home Affairs, Head of the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of the Republic of Indonesia, Margo Yuwono asked all regions in Indonesia, including West Papua, to monitor and control the prices of necessities that are the largest contributors to national inflation.

This, he continued, is mainly the price of broiler eggs whose prices are relatively high in Papua and West Papua reaching IDR 40,000 one ram. The increase in the price of broiler eggs is also said to have contributed the largest to national inflation.

Margo Yuwono also asked the local government to monitor and control the prices of red chilies and shallots, which have recently become a commodity that has affected national inflation.

In addition, he said, local governments including West Papua must also monitor and continuously monitor rice prices because rice is the main cause of national inflation.

"The rising price of rice will affect all prices rising. This is something that all governments in the regions, including West Papua, must watch out for", said Margo Yuwono.

Minister Tito Karnavian also expressed his hope that the local government, meant by West Papua, would continue to control the prices of necessities that continue to give the biggest part in national inflation.

As reported, the Minister of Home Affairs, Tito Karnavian, reminded all local governments and the public to be aware of the inability of other countries to control the economy and inflation so as not to interfere in influencing domestic economic conditions.

"Indonesia's economy is growing quite well, but what needs to be watched out for is the inability of other countries to overcome the COVID-19 pandemic. They are not as successful as Indonesia and their inability to keep the economy from rising like Indonesia", said Tito Karnavian at the opening of the Regional Inflation Control Coordination Meeting in Jakarta Tuesday.

According to Tito, the inability of other countries to control the economy and inflation could have an impact on Indonesia because Indonesia is part of the global economic system.
