JAKARTA - The Ministry of Finance's Director General (Dirjen) of Taxes, Surya Utomo, said that the government is still continuing to validate data related to the big plan to make the Population Identification Number (NIK) to become the Taxpayer Identification Number (NPWP).
"So far, only 19 million Population Identification Numbers can be matched with the Directorate General of Population Administration and Civil Registry," he said during a ceremony celebrating National Tax Day 2022, Monday, July 19.
Suryo admitted that the number was still far from the expected target. To that end, he promised to continue to make efforts to match data with a number of relevant agencies in order to enlarge the source of state revenue from the tax sector.
"We still have a lot to do and will continue to make additions in the future," he said.
Furthermore, during this transition period, Suryo ensures that taxpayers who have not entered the 19 million NIK can still use their NPWP for tax administration purposes.
"Construction is on the way and is expected to be completed in 2023," he stressed.
For information, the integration of population data matching with the Ministry of Finance's tax data has been carried out since this year.
Meanwhile, the application of NIK as a NPWP is a mandate from the Law on the Harmonization of Tax Regulations (HPP) with the spirit to improve the ease of tax administration for the public while encouraging the strengthening of the taxation database.
"This effort can also help the Directorate of Taxes in improving service quality and supervising tax compliance," concluded Suryo.
