Discussing World Bank And IMF Predictions That The Economy Of 60 Countries Will Collapse, President Jokowi: We Must Have A Sensitive Sense Of Crisis

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) said that the World Bank and International Monetary Fund (IMF) predicted that the economy in 60 countries would collapse. In fact, 40 of them have been confirmed to have declined.

Therefore, Jokowi asked his staff to be sensitive to these conditions. The goal is to be able to anticipate various possibilities of uncertainty that occurs at the global level.

"What is 40 is estimated for sure. This is the uncertainty that I mentioned earlier and we all have to know, everyone must have a sense of crisis," Jokowi said in his remarks at the Opening of the National Coordination Meeting for Government Internal Control in 2022, Tuesday, June 14.

Jokowi said the world is currently experiencing uncertainty in the food and energy sectors. This is indicated by the increase in food commodities.

In fact, the state revenue and expenditure budget (APBN) has increased. Therefore, he reminded his staff to work in a balanced manner, both macro and micro. "Work now can't just be macro alone, you can't. The micro details must be known," he said.

In fact, Jokowi said that he received a call from the Prime Minister asking Indonesia to send cooking oil to his country.

According to Jokowi, the Prime Minister is worried that a socio-economic crisis will occur if he does not get a supply of cooking oil. Because the supply in the country has really run out.

"He's been begging for a day or two to send what's called cooking oil. Our stock is completely depleted and if this item (cooking oil) doesn't come there will be a socio-economic crisis which will also lead to a political crisis," he said.

According to Jokowi, a series of incidents have occurred in Sri Lanka. Even though he mentioned Sri Lanka, Jokowi did not directly mention whether the prime minister from Sri Lanka was contacting him.

In addition, Jokowi said that the threat of a food crisis could be an opportunity for Indonesia. Because, according to Jokowi, Indonesia has a lot of large and untapped land.

"But we can also use the threat of a food crisis as an opportunity. Because of our large land area, many have not been utilized, many have not been productive," he said.
