JAKARTA - The Bukit Tua Project Phase-2B has completed a drilling project at the BTJTB-T2 development well located within the Ketapang Working Area, off the coast of East Java.

This project belongs to Petronas which is operated through its subsidiary, PC Ketapang II Ltd.

Bukit Tua Phase-2B has a production capacity of 12,500 barrels of oil per day (BOPD) and 30 million cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) from five development wells.

Bukit Tua Phase-2B is the fourth development well drilling project and was preceded by several previous projects such as Bukit Tua Phase-1, Phase-2A, and Phase-3. The drilling of the Bukit Tua Phase-2B development well was successfully carried out on September 30, 2021, with a depth of 1,890 meters.

"We really appreciate that in the midst of the extraordinary challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic, with the dedication and hard work of all parties who have contributed to making this project go onstream. This is truly extraordinary, and needs to be given appreciation," said Deputy Operations of the Special Task Force for Upstream Oil and Gas Business Activities (SKK Migas) Julius Wiratno in his statement to the media, Friday, April 15.

He added, this project is actually the first major upstream oil and gas project to be inaugurated in 2022 with an investment of US$117 million or equivalent to Rp1.68 trillion.

"Hopefully this can inspire us all in fulfilling the Government's mandate for the oil and gas sector, namely the production target of 703,000 barrels of oil per day (BOPD) of oil and 5800 million cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) of gas in 2022," said Julius.

Furthermore, Julius said that achieving the oil and gas lifting target this year and achieving the production vision of 1 million BOPD and 12 thousand MMSCFD in 2030 requires unusual steps to achieve it. However, with the growing demand for oil and gas and the attractive potential of upstream oil and gas, we are optimistic that the upstream oil and gas industry will continue to be sustainable.

"SKK Migas encourages KKKS to realize every approved Oil and Gas Field Development Plan - Plan of Development (POD), and encourages any discovery of oil and gas reserves so that they can be produced immediately," said Julius.

Meanwhile, the Executive Vice President and Chief Executive Officer of Upstream Petronas, Adif Zulkifli, said that this achievement marked their commitment to providing a safe and reliable energy supply for Indonesia.

"The first production in the Bukit Tua Phase 2B development project has an important role in contributing to achieving the target of 1 million barrels of oil per day by 2030 in Indonesia," he said.
