JAKARTA - PT Bank Central Asia Tbk (BCA) has disbursed a credit facility of Rp. 2.7 trillion and working capital credit of up to Rp. 100 billion to PT Ekagrata Data Gemilang or EDGE DC, a subsidiary of PT Indointernet Tbk (EDGE).

Edge DC is an entity with a business focus on carrier-neutral data centers, which are located near the city center to answer customer needs for low-latency data access.

The company is currently completing the development of the EDGE1 with an IT Load capacity of 6 Megawatts. Although only commercially operating in January 2021, EDGE1 has obtained a contract for around 60 percent of the total capacity.

To anticipate the growing demand for data center in the city center is higher, EDGE DC is actively developing other data center location opportunities as part of the company's continued expansion.

"The financing we provide to EDGE DC includes financing for the completion of the development of EDGE1 and also for development plans at the next location," said Director of BCA Rudy Susanto, in a press release, Tuesday, March 29.

According to Rudy, the collaboration between BCA and EDGE DC is a good momentum to support the development of digital infrastructure in Indonesia, especially related to the construction of data centers.

Director of EDGE DC Den Tossi Ishak welcomed the trust and support from BCA. He stated that the expansion plan for the construction of the second EDGE data center shows the company's seriousness in supporting the growth of IT infrastructure in Indonesia.

Meanwhile, EDGE DC Commissioner Toto Sugiri said the data center industry is currently in the spotlight. He said Indonesia is one of the countries with the fastest data center growth in Asia, with a projected market share of US$618 million in 2025.

"Demand for data centers is expected to exceed the existing supply due to the increasing demand for cloud-based services, big data analytics, and the Internet of Things aka IoT," he said.

He continued that this condition would cause end-users to demand access anywhere and anytime to various application platforms, services, and data stored in the data center quickly. Therefore, the latency is no longer tolerable.

The collaboration between BCA and EDGE DC will facilitate various needs for the expansion of a data center located in the center of Jakarta.

For information, Indonet (EDGE) as the parent company of EDGE DC is known to have transformed into a digital business enabler by providing digital infrastructure services, including multi-connectivity, cloud, and data center. Since June 2021, Digital Edge Ltd (Hong Kong) has officially become the majority shareholder of Indonet.
