Supported By South Korea In G20, Coordinating Minister Airlangga: We Can Learn To Get Out Of The Middle Income Trap

JAKARTA – Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto stated that the South Korean government fully supports Indonesia in this year's G20 presidency. This was revealed by Airlangga when receiving an official visit from the Minister of Trade of South Korea in Jakarta today.

"The South Korean government supports Indonesia's initiative and together we will make the G20 agenda a success in 2022," he said in a press statement, Tuesday, February 22.

According to Airlangga, Indonesia is focusing its attention on the theme of energy transition to be included in the trade, investment and industrial working group at the G20.

"I hope the South Korean government can support this. Furthermore, because of the G20, Indonesia also wants to invite the South Korean government to build strong partnerships in the fields of trade, investment, industry, and what is now important is the digital or e-commerce sector," he said.

Not only that, Airlangga also wants to emulate South Korean policies and regulatory approaches that have succeeded in achieving the goal of becoming a developed country. Moreover, currently RI is intensively pursuing economic recovery, especially in terms of economic transformation

"I think South Korea has come out of the middle income trap, and we can learn from them. In addition, I also appreciate the role of the government and South Korean companies in Indonesia in helping the economic transformation of this country," he stressed.

On the same occasion, South Korean Trade Minister Moon Sung Wook stated that strengthening cooperation with Indonesia could widen the way for collaboration with other ASEAN countries.

“The South Korean government has always strengthened cooperation with ASEAN countries, including Indonesia. Cooperation with Indonesia is something special, namely since the beginning of diplomatic relations in 1973, the two countries have been partners who have always assisted in various economic development projects," said Minister Moon.
