Pertamina's Managing Director Nicke Widyawati Speaks About Pertalite To Be Abolished In 2022: There Is No Such Policy, But We Call On People To Use Pertamax

JAKARTA - The government continues to encourage the use of energy that is more environmentally friendly. Therefore, the government also plans to phase out fuel oil with a household octane below RON 91. This means that it is equivalent to Premium and Pertalite fuels, which have octane levels of RON 88 and RON 90, respectively.

President Director of PT Pertamina (Persero) Nicke Widyawati spoke about the news of the abolition of Premium and Pertalite fuel types. According to her, until now there is no policy to eliminate Pertalite.

Instead of deleting it, Nicke said the government would educate the public to use higher octane fuel. This is in line with the Langit Biru (Blue Sky) program issued by Pertamina in mid-2020.

Furthermore, Nicke said that the Langit Biru program was present as an effort by the government to encourage people to buy shifting from Premium to Pertalite.

"There is no policy today to abolish Pertalite. It doesn't exist. So this is back again, we are more focused on education, educating the public because later we will both feel the benefits of this Blue Sky program," she said, at the Deputy Palace President, Jakarta, Tuesday, December 28.

Nicke also ensured that Pertalite type fuel would still be on the market.

"So Pertalite is still on the market, so go ahead," she said.

Even so, she appealed to the public to use fuel with better quality, namely Pertamax.

"But we encourage to use a better one, namely Pertamax. So that we can contribute to reducing carbon emissions in Indonesia," she said.

Furthermore, Nicke explained the appeal for the use of fuel with better quality to the community in accordance with the provisions of the Minister of Environment and Forestry regarding the reduction of carbon emissions. Where the rules contain recommendations for the use of fuel with a level of RON 91.

"One is the provision from the Minister of Environment and Forestry in 2017 that there is a provision to reduce carbon emissions, so it is recommended that the fuel sold is a minimum of 91. So this is the basis. We will see how the steps are carried out, because the President himself said that other aspects must also be considered in its implementation," she explained.

Nicke said the aspects referred to include the affordability and readiness of supply. This means the affordability of prices and supplies from Pertamina.

Through the Langit Biru program which will be implemented in mid-2020, Nicke said Pertamina encourages people to switch from buying Premium to Pertalite. The trick, starting in June 2020, is giving Pertalite discounts at a premium.

"Alhamdulillah, from June 2020 to today, we have managed to reduce carbon emissions by 12 million tons. This is a contribution from the community who switched from using Premium to Pertalite and of course using it for better and more efficient engines," she said.
