Sri Mulyani Brings Good News, Next Year's G20 Event Has The Potential To Create 33,000 Jobs

JAKARTA - The government through the Minister of Finance (Menkeu) Sri Mulyani explained a number of benefits that Indonesia will get while serving as President of the G20 throughout 2022.

One of the things he put forward was about the opportunity for job opportunities for the people of Indonesia. According to the Minister of Finance, this opportunity arises from holding physical meetings held in the country while still trying to maintain the management of COVID-19 at a low level.

“We will hold around 150 meetings and side events that will take place in various cities in Indonesia. So we hope that 33,000 jobs will be created from various sectors from this activity alone," she said while giving a speech at the international forum Road to Indonesia G20 which was broadcasted virtually, Thursday, November 11.

Furthermore, other benefit that can be achieved by Indonesia is related to national economic growth. In the calculations of the Minister of Finance, it is stated that the implementation of the G20 forum in Indonesia has the potential to increase domestic consumption by 190.2 million US dollars and create 533 million US dollars of gross domestic product (GDP).

"We hope that the impact of holding the G20 in many cities by many ministries and organizations will stimulate the economy," she said.

Citing data released by the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), it is known that the total workforce in August 2021 was 140.15 million people, an increase of 1.93 million people compared to August 2020.

Meanwhile, the open unemployment rate (TPT) in August 2021 was 6.49 percent, down 0.58 percent compared to August 2020.

Just so you know, BPS reports that there are 21.32 million people (10.32 percent of the working-age population) affected by COVID-19.

This number consists of unemployed due to COVID-19 (1.82 million people), non-work force (BAK) due to COVID-19 (700,000 people), temporarily not working due to COVID-19 (1.39 million people), and working population who experienced reduced working hours due to COVID-19 (17.41 million people).
