One Year Prabowo Subianto: Cabinet Reshuffle Must Be Objective, Not Because Of Budi's Reply

JAKARTA After one year running, the Red and White Cabinet (KMP) needs to conduct a thorough evaluation. The ministers who are considered not to show the best performance deserve to be reshuffled, according to Pangi Syarwi Chaniago.

Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka's leadership as president and vice president ran for one year on October 20 after the two were sworn in at the People's Consultative Session (MPR).

In one year in office, a series of flagship programs were implemented, starting from Free Nutrition Food (MBG), people's schools, and Red and White Village Cooperatives. During this period, a number of achievements were obtained, but it cannot be denied, many targets are still far below expectations.

Executive Director of the Voxpol Center Research and Consulting Pangi Syarwi Chaniago said that one year of Prabowo's administration was the right moment to evaluate and reshuffle the cabinet.

Prabowo Subianto has recorded that he has done reshuffles or cabinet reshuffles three times since taking the oath as President of Indonesia on October 20, 2024.

The first reshuffle occurred on February 19, 2025, by replacing Satryo Soemantri Brodjonegoro from his position as Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology (Mendikti Saintek). His position was replaced by Brian Yuliarto, Professor of the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB).

Then on September 8, 2025, Prabowo announced a second reshuffle, replacing five ministers. The five ministers replaced were Coordinating Minister for Politics and Security Budi Gudawan, Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani, Minister of Protection for Indonesian Migrant Workers (P2MI) Abdul Kadir Karding, Minister of Cooperatives Budi Arie Setiadi, and Minister of Youth and Sports Dito Ariotedjo.

At that time, Prabowo appointed four ministers and one deputy minister, namely Purbaya Yudhi Sadivewa as Minister of Finance, Mukhtarudin as Minister of P2MI, Ferry Juliantono as Minister of Cooperatives, Irfan Yusuf as Minister of Hajj and Umrah, and Dahnil Anzar Simanjuntak as Deputy Minister of Hajj and Umrah.

Then on September 17, Prabowo replaced Erick Thohir from the position of Minister of SOEs. He was withdrawn from filling the position of Minister of Youth and Sports, which was vacant after being left by Dito Ariotedjo.

On one occasion, Prabowo had warned the ministers and KMP ranks not to be naughty. He will do the threat of reshuffle if the minister does not carry out his orders.

"If there are one or two naughty, I will commemorate. One warning is still naughty, still don't want to hear it, two warnings. Three times whether it is permissible for a reshuffle to be replaced," Prabowo said on October 18.

Although his tenure is still as old as corn, Pangi Syarwi Chaniago assesses that this is a golden momentum for the head of state to conduct a comprehensive evaluation of KMP.

There is a reason why Pangi believes that. The minister, he said, was not just an assistant to the president, but also a determinant of the success of political programs and promises to the people.

After one year in office, he saw that there were still ministers who were actually a burden, not a solution. Therefore, the president must dare to use his prerogative firmly and appropriately. The minister who is considered not performing for the past year must be removed.

"The state does not need officials who are only busy imaging, from the origin of the deposit, or just giving good news without real work," said Pangi, in a statement received by VOI.

Prabowo Subianto's government has implemented various leading programs such as MBG, Red and White Kopdes, People's Schools, free health services, wage subsidies, food self-sufficiency, and Hajj services. Pangi assessed that these programs should not be left to the wrong person.

"This program is the president's 'super premium promise' to the people and related ministers must be fully responsible for its success," he stressed.

The minister, he continued, must be loyal to the president and the people, not to personal or group interests. He also encouraged the president not to hesitate to reshuffle the cabinet based on performance, notlicedanddislike.

"Ministers who are burdened, especially those who have been reminded three times, are not worth maintaining. Reshuffle is not for retaliation, but to save government performance and maintain people's trust," said Pangi.

The reshuffle must also be carried out objectively, not because of proximity or power sharing. The minister's position is too strategic to be used as a political tool. The change of ministers must be based on performance eruptions, not dislikes or dislikes," he said.
