JAKARTA - President Prabowo Subianto has paid attention to coconut fiber tiles developed by the National Research and Innovation Agency or BRIN. The product is considered a potential to be used to replace zinc roofs.

Special Presidential Advisor for Communication Hasan Nasbi said the roof tiles were one of BRIN's innovation results that Prabowo had highlighted several times.

"What President Prabowo highlighted the most was the innovation results from BRIN, a coconut mat with extraordinary durability, low cost, light weight, but when it is hit and trampled it does not break," said Hasan at the Presidential Palace Complex, Jakarta, Thursday, August 6.

According to Hasan, the durability of the product makes it an opportunity to be applied for housing needs.

He said Prabowo wanted to replace the use of zinc as a roofing material. Zinc is considered less good for health and building shape.

"That could be an innovation for the future for houses. The president wants to replace zinc because in addition to being unhealthy, it is also very ugly from the perspective of beauty," said Hasan.

Coconut coir shingles are considered to offer a lighter and cheaper option, but still have high durability.

"If it is replaced with tiles made from coconut coir, it is extraordinary. That is what the President highlighted several times," he said.

Hasan said the innovation could be implemented immediately. However, he has not explained the production scheme, the location of use, or the time of implementation.

"This can be implemented immediately," said Hasan.
