Tehran Urges UN to Play Active Role in Post-War Reconstruction in Iran

JAKARTA - Deputy Foreign Minister of Iran Kazem Gharibabadi urged the United Nations (UN) to play an active role in reconstruction efforts and assessing the war damage in Iran as a result of the war with the United States and Israel.

This was conveyed by Gharibabadi when receiving the Head of the UN Representative in Iran Christine Weigand on Tuesday, July 28.

During the meeting, the Iranian Minister of Foreign Affairs emphasized the importance of cooperation between Iran and the UN. He encouraged UN offices in Iran to make optimal use of Iran's valuable human resources.

He then explained the impact and consequences of the two recent wars faced by the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Gharibabadi urged the UN agencies and offices to be more active in supporting the reconstruction process and reviewing the violence and damage that occurred.

a The UN agencies are also encouraged to provide a realistic picture of the impact of the war on humanity and the economy as well as to mobilize international resources and assistance to facilitate reconstruction and development projects.

Meanwhile, Christine Weigand expressed appreciation for the perspective and cooperation provided by Iran, while agreeing on the importance of optimizing highly skilled Iranian personnel in UN offices.

Weigand expressed the readiness of the UN Office in Iran to submit information on the damage to special agencies and to support the adjustment of cooperation programs according to the current situation in Iran.

He also emphasized his party's commitment to mobilizing financial resources and gathering support from development partners for Iran.
