DENPASAR, July 29, 2026 — On the day the Indonesian Air Force (TNI AU) commemorated the 79th anniversary of its Day of Devotion — a day that immortalizes the sacrifice of Air Vice Marshal (Posthumous) Agustinus Adisutjipto, Air Vice Marshal (Posthumous) Abdulrachman Saleh, and the nation's aviation pioneers — I Gusti Ngurah Rai Air Force Base marked a new chapter in its journey of transformation.

Following the 79th Air Force Day of Devotion ceremony, the Commander of I Gusti Ngurah Rai Air Force Base, Colonel (Pilot) David Dwi Martin W., S.M., officially launched Gatra Akasa (Gerbang Akurasi Informasi Dirgantara — the Gateway of Aerospace Information Accuracy), the base's official information channel and the first interactive digital e-magazine in its history.

What makes this launch remarkable is not only its form, but also the speed of its realization. The idea for Gatra Akasa was conceived by Colonel David in the earliest days of his command, and within mere weeks of the change-of-command ceremony, the vision had been fully realized: an official portal, an inaugural e-magazine edition, a digital archive, and base personnel trained to manage it. It stands as proof that under the right leadership, transformation can be achieved swiftly, purposefully, and sustainably.

“I am a pilot. In the air, accuracy is not an option — accuracy is survival. I bring that same principle to the ground: information from this base must be accurate, official, and accountable. I Gusti Ngurah Rai Air Force Base stands at the gateway of Indonesian tourism, witnessed by the world every single day. It is only fitting that this base also becomes the gateway of aerospace information accuracy,” said Colonel (Pilot) David Dwi Martin W., S.M.

The name Gatra Akasa was chosen for its profound meaning: gatra means form or visage, while akasa means sky — representing the official face of the base on the digital horizon. Its inaugural e-magazine is presented in an interactive flipbook format wrapped in Balinese aesthetics, blending the dignity of aerospace tradition with the local wisdom of the land on which the base stands. That philosophy is also reflected in its emblem: strands of wing feathers dissolving into pixel fragments — a symbol that tradition is not left behind, but flown onward into a new form.

“Every generation at this base has inscribed its service. Only one thing sets them apart: whether that service was documented or lost to time. Gatra Akasa is our way of ensuring that no act of service is ever lost again. What we do today will be readable by airmen who have not yet been born,” the Commander continued.

The inaugural edition of Gatra Akasa presents the leadership journey of the Commander of I Gusti Ngurah Rai Air Force Base — from his service record and his vision and mission, to the direction of transformation he is championing throughout his tenure.

Behind the scenes, this transformation is accompanied by an equally important step: building the capacity of base personnel in content production, portal management, and digital archive governance, so that going forward, Gatra Akasa can be managed independently by the base's own airmen. The digitalization being built is not merely technology — it is capability embedded within the unit itself.

For the public, the presence of Gatra Akasa provides certainty of source. Amid a relentless flood of information that cannot always be verified, the people of Bali and aviation enthusiasts now have a single official address to learn about the base's activities, history, and service — directly from the source.
