JAKARTA - Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Grossi said his party would verify that uranium supplied from the UK to Ukraine was used for peaceful purposes.

"What we are monitoring is not the transfer of fuel, but we are implementing security at these facilities to ensure there are no deviations for non-civilian use," Grossi said, quoted by ANTARA from Sputnik, Monday, July 6.

Grossi explained that the IAEA is not involved in commercial transactions, which may or may not exist. However, once the material arrives at the facility, the IAEA will conduct an inspection.

"That is my job, to ensure that in every nuclear power plant in the world there are no deviations, including in Iran, there is no military use of fuel used for civilian purposes," he said.

Because of this, according to Grossi, some people sometimes feel that the IAEA is too assertive on certain issues.

"So, we must ensure that no party feels offended, because that is the rules of the game in the NPT. If a country has decided to join, then they must be willing to be inspected by the IAEA without politicization or feeling targeted because they are A, B, or C countries," concluded Grossi.

Previously, the British Foreign Ministry (FCO) announced that it would allocate 290 million British pounds (about Rp6.8 trillion) to supply enriched uranium to Kiev and support Ukraine.
