Bahlil Lahadalia Forms a Special Team to Monitor PLN Coal Supply

Jakarta - Energy and Mineral Resources Minister (ESDM) Bahlil Lahadalia plans to form a special team to oversee the procurement of coal for PLN, after there was a rotating power outage due to the supply of coal that PLN wanted to reduce.

This step was taken after the government found problems that were considered repetitive. Bahlil even reminded that a similar case had occurred in 2022. The team will be composed of representatives of PLN, the Directorate General of Mineral and Coal of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, the Financial and Development Supervisory Agency (BPKP), and the Inspector General.

According to Bahlil, the government also opened the possibility of involving law enforcement officers to provide assistance. This was conveyed by Bahlil at the Presidential Palace Complex, Jakarta, Monday, June 22.

According to Bahlil, the problem faced by PLN is not in the lack of coal volume. In terms of supply, PLN's needs reach 154 million tons per year, while the government's assignment to mining companies reaches 180 million to 190 million tons. In addition, PLN has contracted around 134 million tons of coal for the current year.

The main problem is the availability of medium-calorific coal needed for the blending process of power plant fuel. The government, said Bahlil, has helped PLN find the right coal supply so that electricity services remain maintained.

President Prabowo in the meeting also asked the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources to immediately take measurable steps so that similar disruptions do not occur again and public services remain guaranteed.
