JAKARTA - A motorcyclist was trapped in a sinkhole in the middle of the Lenteng Agung Highway, Jagakarsa, South Jakarta. The incident was recorded on a CCTV camera and went viral on social media.

Jagakarsa Police Chief Commissioner Nurma Dewi said the motorcyclist fell after trying to break through the traffic jam at the scene.

"He said it was jammed. He passed by here, wanted to go against the flow on the right," he said when contacted by the media, Friday, May 29, 2026.

Based on the circulating video footage, the motorcyclist was seen trying to find a gap by crossing against the direction when the traffic was crawling.

However, the driver allegedly did not realize that there was a large hole in the location of the road that was collapsing so that the motorcycle he was riding suddenly fell into the hole.

Nurma explained that the position of the hole was right in the middle of the road so it was quite dangerous for drivers, especially when the traffic situation was crowded. However, there were no casualties or serious injuries in the incident.

"The person is not why. It's just the motorcycle that came in," he said.

According to Nurma, the rider then got on and immediately left the location without undergoing medical treatment because he did not have serious injuries.

"The victim went up by himself, then he turned around," he added.

Meanwhile, officers have installed iron plates on top of part of the road that has collapsed so that vehicles can still pass through the scene.

It is known that the road in Jalan Raya Lenteng Agung collapsed on Thursday night, May 28, 2026. The hole has a size of about three meters wide, three meters deep, and a length of 16 meters.

Currently, the hole is handled by the Water Resources Service (SDA) officers by installing a steel plate on top of part of the hole so that vehicles can still pass. However, congestion around the location is still occurring due to the narrowing of the lane.
