JAKARTA - The meeting of the large family of Smart Alert Volunteers - Waspada Scammer Cinta (RSC-WSC) in Jakarta, Saturday, May 23, 2026, is not just a reunion. The event again reminds of the threat of digital fraud disguised as romance or love scam that still targets the community.
The RSC-WSC trainer, Iptu Daniel Bachrul Rohmat, SH, who also served as the Head of Cyber Patrol Ropaminal Divpropam Polri, said that this activity was important to maintain the network of education and vigilance against digital crimes.
"Love scam is not just a money scam. Many victims also experience mental pressure because they are manipulated emotionally. Therefore, education must continue," said Iptu Daniel.
RSC-WSC reunited volunteers and digital literacy activists who have been actively educating the public.
The love scam modus usually uses fake accounts, love appeals, emotional manipulation, extortion, and requests for money from victims through social media or conversation applications.
"The public must be more vigilant. Don't easily believe in accounts that are just known on social media, especially if they have started to ask for money or personal data," said Iptu Daniel.
One of the initial drivers of WSC was Bunda Feydown, an Indonesian citizen living in Australia. Since around 2012, he has been actively educating people about the dangers of fake accounts and online romance scams.
In Indonesia, the strengthening of RSC-WSC was carried out by Diah Agung Esfandari, MSi, lecturer in Communication Science at Telkom University who became the Chairperson of the RSC-WSC Community.
Diah plays a role in strengthening digital literacy, public education, victim assistance, and the development of social movements to protect the community from various online fraud modes.
The meeting was also a space to care for the relationship between members who have been working on the same issue. They shared experiences, old stories, and strengthened anti-love scam education work.
RSC-WSC hopes that this educational movement will continue to spread. Because, digital fraud disguised as romance not only harms the victim financially, but also leaves psychological wounds that are often not easy to recover.
