JAKARTA - The National Nutrition Agency (BGN) stated that approximately six million liters of cooking oil from the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) Program has great potential in supporting the development of green energy and the national circular economy.

Head of BGN Dadan Hindayana said that each nutrition fulfillment service unit (SPPG) is estimated to produce around 500 to 590 liters of cooking oil per month. With the number of SPPGs now reaching around 17,200 units on Java, the potential cooking oil produced is estimated to reach 6 million liters every month.

"So, if you multiply 500 liters, there will be approximately 6 million liters per month," he said in an official statement in Jakarta, Friday.

According to Dadan, each Nutrition Fulfillment Service Unit (SPPG) uses an average of around 800 liters of cooking oil every month and most of it will turn into cooking oil.

"It was beyond my expectations, each SPPG uses approximately 800 liters of cooking oil every month, of which 70 percent will end up being cooking oil," said Dadan.

Dadan explained that the use of cooking oil in the SPPG environment was also limited in order to maintain the quality of food provided to the beneficiaries of the MBG Program.

"It should be noted that in BGN oil should not be used often, a maximum of an average of three times fried and then become a clear oil," said Dadan.

In addition to the utilization of crude oil, BGN has also begun to encourage the use of alternative energy in the operational environment of SPPG through the utilization of natural gas networks and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) in a number of regions to strengthen a cleaner and more efficient energy system.

Dadan assessed that the potential of millions of liters of waste oil can be a first step in building a collaboration for the development of green energy based on a circular economy while strengthening national energy independence.

"I think this can be the first step for our cooperation program, so that oil that was once garbage becomes valuable, which was once thrown away, becomes money," he said.
