JAKARTA - The Indonesian government has started to free up land for the Haji Village in Saudi Arabia as an initial stage of construction to improve the services of pilgrims, with the project location in the Jabal Hindawiyah area near the Grand Mosque.
"The location is very close, there will be special access, such as a tunnel (tunnel) so that pilgrims are not disturbed by the flow of vehicles and other pilgrims," said Presidential Special Advisor for Hajj Affairs Muhadjir Effendy in Surabaya, East Java, Thursday, April 30, reported by ANTARA.
Muhadjir explained that the Haji Village would be built in the Jabal Hindawiyah area at a distance of about 2 to 2.5 kilometers from the Grand Mosque.
In the initial phase, he said, the government prepared three towers that could accommodate around 1,600 people. The tower is targeted to start being used in next year's hajj season after its management is taken over by Danantara.
This project is a long-term vision that has been initiated since President Joko Widodo and is now continued by President Prabowo Subianto.
"We have been dreaming of having a Kampung Haji for 40 years. Now it is beginning to be realized," said Muhadjir.
In its development, he continued, the area is planned to stand hundreds of towers to accommodate most of the Indonesian pilgrims.
Of the total land requirement of around 84 hectares, he said, currently around 54 hectares are in the process of being released.
Muhadjir emphasized that project financing would not depend on the State Budget (APBN), but rather through an investment scheme managed by Danantara by involving investors, including from Saudi Arabia.
In addition, he said, the government has also prepared an additional funding scheme of around IDR 1.7 trillion to cover operational needs without burdening pilgrims.
