JAKARTA - Chairman of the DPP of the NasDem Party, Willy Aditya, said the Chairman of the NasDem Party, Surya Paloh, offered the concept of political bloc (political bloc), instead of merger or fusion with other political parties.
Willy's statement was made in response to the issue of the NasDem Party merging with the Gerindra Party.
"What Surya Paloh offers is a political bloc. A political bloc, not a merger," he said, quoted by ANTARA, Monday, April 13.
He said the political bloc was part of political engineering as an effort to ward off the tendency of today's political party relations which are transactional.
"It's been transactional, yes. Well, we need a solid political bloc from top to bottom, that's it. The understanding is not a merger, dong," he said.
He regretted that the party used the merger narrative. According to him, the term is not appropriate to be combined in the political context.
Willy admitted that the Indonesian political landscape had been colored by the fusion or merger of parties, but it was done on the basis of state decisions.
"We used to have a tradition of party fusion, but it was driven from above by power. Only two parties merge: Islamic parties become PPP, nationalist parties become PDI," he said.
He assessed that those who used the merger narrative failed to read Surya Paloh's idea, which he said was full of reflective considerations.
"He (the party that uses the merger narrative) should have caught Mr. Surya as a person who thinks out of the box (different from the usual). We have been thinking that it is only a joint secretariat, a coalition party. The coalition is in the candidacy process. Meanwhile, in the government (government), we do not know the coalition," he said.
"We are (implementing the presidential system), coalition government is known in the parliamentary system," he continued, explaining the background of the political bloc's idea.
He also further exemplified the application of political blocs in Indonesia.
"Golkar is a political bloc. Remember the old law, the law on political parties and the work group. That is, we have two political blocs, yes. One, Bung Karno when he issued the decree, it was called the National Front, which was called Nasakom. The second, the work group was previously Sekber Golkar. That's a political bloc," said Willy.
Meanwhile, when asked about the meeting between Surya Paloh and President Prabowo Subianto who is also the General Chair of the Gerindra Party, Willy said it was a natural thing.
"It's natural for two friends to meet. When Mr. Prabowo first came to Gondangdia (NasDem Tower), we discussed for six hours about many things. Where is there something more familiar, more intimate, to be able to have such a dialectic? A Surya Paloh with a Mr. Prabowo at that time could discuss many things equally (equally)," he said.
