West Papua Police (Polda) South West Papua has intensified the pursuit of 19 suspects who are on the wanted list (DPO) related to the murder and arson cases in Tambrauw Regency.
The Director of Criminal Investigation of the West Papua Barat Daya Police, Commissioner General of Police Junov Siregar, said that his party, together with the Tambrauw Police, is currently handling at least three police reports related to a series of arson cases in 2024 and violence to murder in March 2026.
"For the incident on March 8, 2026, there were five people who had been designated as DPOs with the initials DY, SY, AY, YY, and DY," he said in Aimas, Sorong Regency, Tuesday, quoted by Antara.
In addition, the police also handled the case of burning the Bamusbama District Office on December 2, 2024 with a total of eight DPOs.
Meanwhile, the case of the murder of two civilians on March 16, 2026, there were 10 suspects, but four people had surrendered, the rest were still fugitives.
"Thus, the total number of suspects who are currently being hunted by the police is 19 people," he said.
He explained that the number of perpetrators on the search list could still increase as the results of the examination of the suspects who had been secured progressed.
"It is possible that the number of perpetrators will increase, depending on the results of the follow-up examination," he said.
Junov appealed to the families and relatives of the suspects to help provide information regarding the whereabouts of the DPOs to expedite the law enforcement process.
He added that the perpetrators were allegedly exposed to armed criminal groups (KKB) with the initial target of security personnel, but in the implementation they actually attacked civilians.
"On March 8, 2026, the victim was a civilian," he said.
In handling the case, the police involved various parties, including the local government, community leaders, the DPR, and the TNI, to accelerate the disclosure of the case.
According to Junov, the collaboration is important to ensure that all perpetrators can be immediately arrested and processed according to applicable laws.
"All of these suspects must be gathered first to facilitate the process of handling the case," he said.
The West Papua Police are committed to completing all cases of violence in the Tambrauw area in order to maintain public security and order.
