Nabire - The Task Force (Satgas) for the Acceleration of Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) in Nabire Regency, Central Papua, has intensified supervision of the management of kitchen waste of the Nutrition Fulfillment Service Unit (SPPG) to prevent environmental pollution.
The Head of the Nabire Environmental Service (DLH) Arfan Natan Palumpun, in Nabire, Friday, said that every business actor, including the manager of the SPPG kitchen, must have a permit and be responsible for the management of waste produced.
"According to Law Number 18 of 2008, every business actor including SPPG kitchens must have a permit and be responsible for waste management," he said.
He explained that the DLH as part of the MBG Task Force found a number of violations in the field, especially related to the management of wastewater treatment plants (IPAL) that have not met standards.
According to him, although environmental permit management has been carried out online through the OSS and Amdal Net systems, implementation in the field is still not in accordance with the commitments contained in the licensing document.
"In the field, there are still IPALs that do not meet standards, even some that are just for display and not functional," he said.
In addition, he said, there was a practice of dumping oil and fat waste directly into the drainage channel which had the potential to pollute the environment around the SPPG kitchen.
He assessed that the condition showed that the compliance of some SPPG managers with the standard operating procedures (SOP) for waste management was still low.
"SPPG must not take environmental management lightly because this concerns public health and the sustainability of the MBG Program," he said.
Arfan emphasized that the Nabire MBG Task Force would not tolerate violations that could potentially cause environmental pollution.
He added that the local government had also coordinated with the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) to ensure that every SPPG kitchen that operates must meet waste management standards, including the existence of IPAL.
"SPPG that does not meet the requirements will not be allowed to operate," he said.
As a form of enforcement of the rules, the Nabire MBG Task Force has recommended a temporary closure of a number of SPPG kitchens that have not met IPAL standards.
As a result, five SPPGs in Nabire were temporarily closed by BGN since March 31, 2026, namely SPPG 001 Siriwini, SPPG Nabire Nabarua Bukit Cenderawasih, SPPG 02 Kalisusu, SPPG 01 Bumi Wonorejo, and SPPG Gerbang Sadu.
The supervision will continue to be carried out on an ongoing basis to ensure that all SPPG in Nabire carry out waste management in accordance with applicable regulations.
He hopes that this step can encourage increased compliance of SPPG managers while maintaining environmental quality and food safety in the implementation of the MBG Program in the area.
