The West Jakarta City Government Partners with KAI, Women and Children Protection is Strengthened

JAKARTA - The West Jakarta City Government has begun to seek legal reinforcement to protect women and children. This step was taken in collaboration with the Indonesian Advocates Congress (KAI), amid the increasing number of social issues that pressure vulnerable groups, from bullying, domestic violence, to the impact of online loans and online gambling.

The commitment emerged in a meeting between KAI and the West Jakarta City Government at the Ciputra Hotel, Tuesday, March 10. In the forum, the issue of protection of women and children emerged as a major concern, given the fact that the most vulnerable victims often come from these two groups.

KAI President, Dr. Nasrullah Nawawi, said that the problems currently faced cannot be seen separately. According to him, when family resilience is weakened, violations of the law are easier to emerge, and women and children are usually the first to receive the impact.

"Family resilience is the main key. If legal education and communication at the household level go well, the potential for legal violations can be significantly suppressed," said Nasrullah.

He alluded to a series of issues that are now closer to family life, ranging from bullying, domestic violence, to the clutches of loan sharks and judol. For this reason, KAI formed the Family, Women, and Children's Advocates Struggle, a platform prepared to strengthen legal assistance for victims with a more sensitive approach.

The Mayor of West Jakarta, Iin Mutmainah, welcomed this step. He assessed that collaboration with advocates was important because the government needed support from the regulatory side so that the protection program carried out was not weak in implementation.

Currently, West Jakarta is encouraging the Safe and Comfortable School program and activating the Teen Counseling Information Center at the Junior High School and High School levels. The program is aimed at teenagers being peer counselors for their friends, especially in the midst of the rapid flow of information from social media.

"We are very grateful for KAI's attention to the protection of women and children. In the midst of the heavy flow of social media information, the PIK-R program is present so that teenagers can become peer counselors for their friends. However, we in the government certainly need input from the legal aspect so that this policy has a strong regulatory umbrella," said Iin.

Iin hopes that the synergy with KAI can accelerate Jakarta's target to achieve the title of a fully qualified Child-Friendly City in 2026-2027. West Jakarta itself was chosen as the locus piloting project for a safe and comfortable city for children, women, the elderly, the disabled, and other vulnerable groups.

"This synergy is the key. We as executives need to communicate in terms of regulation so that every step of protecting vulnerable groups is in the right corridor. Let's work together to create a safe and comfortable West Jakarta for all residents," said Iin.

The event of the DPD of the DKI Jakarta Railway also attended by the Chairman of the DPD of the DKI Jakarta Railway, Tuti Susilawati, Umar Abdul Aziz, Assistant to the Government of the City of West Jakarta Administration Holi, the Grogol Petamburan District, Kasudin Education Jakarta Barat II Diding, Member of the Lampung Tengah DPRD Toni Sastra, and Kornelius Naibaho.
