In 2 Months, 26 People Died in an Accident on the Daop 4 Railway Line

JAKARTA - PT (Persero) Kereta Api Daop 4 Semarang, Central Java, has informed that as many as 16 people died and two were injured from 10 cases of accidents on the railway line during the beginning of January to February 2026.

The Public Relations Manager of PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) Daop 4 Semarang Luqman Arif in Batang, Thursday, said the number of accidents on railway lines and crossings was still worrying.

"Yes, based on data as of February 26, 2026, there have been 10 accidents on the KA line and the crossing. There were 16 people who died," he said.

According to him, every time he enters the fasting month, residents are still found gathering, playing, or just waiting for the time to break the fast (ngabuburit) and during the dawn at the train tracks.

"KAI strictly prohibits the public from being on the railway tracks for any activity other than railway operational interests. It is very dangerous," he said.

He said the ban was regulated in Article 181 Paragraph 1 of Law Number 23 of 2007 concerning Railways.

Violations of the rules, he said, can be subject to a maximum criminal penalty of three months in prison or a fine of up to Rp. 15 million as stipulated in Article 199 of the same Law.

He reminded that the frequency of train travel would increase ahead of the Lebaran transportation period so that the community should be more vigilant and avoid dangerous habits around the tracks.

"When they are playing or relaxing, residents often do not realize that they are in a prohibited zone that is high risk to their safety," he said.

He said that until February 2026, his party had held 37 socialization at the crossing and four at schools, as well as security patrols at vulnerable locations and unmonitored crossing.

The activity, he said, involved the TNI, Polri, the railfans community, and local regency elements.

"Education is given directly to motorcyclists, cars, and pedestrians to be more disciplined and understand that train travel has priority according to traffic laws. Safety is a shared responsibility," he said.
