The bus, which was traveling from the popular tourist town of Pokhara to the capital Kathmandu, crashed in Dhading District around 01:30 local time, police spokesman Shailendra Thapa said.

After going off the road, the bus fell into the Trishuli River, which was about 300 meters below the road, until it was in a bad condition. The driver was reported dead.

A British citizen and a Chinese citizen were also among the dead.

Previously, police said a 26-year-old Japanese national and a New Zealander were injured.

Highways in Nepal are known to be prone to vehicle accidents due to poor road maintenance and sharp turns.
