Jakut Police Patrol Prices at a Number of Markets Ahead of Ramadan, Traders Who Violate HET Will Be Taken Action

JAKARTA - The Criminal Investigation Unit (Satreskrim) of the North Jakarta Metro Police has begun to monitor the sale of basic necessities in a number of traditional and modern markets ahead of Ramadan.

Peddlers of basic necessities are urged not to sell their goods above the highest retail price (HET) that has been set.

To oversee prices remain stable, there will be joint officers who will conduct direct checks to markets and retail stores. If violations are found, the police will take firm action.

"Later there will be a Food Task Force team that will collaborate with the police to check the markets and retail stores related to these fixed retail prices," said Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of North Jakarta Metro Police, AKBP Onkoseno Gradiarso Sukahar when confirmed, Saturday, February 14, 2026.

AKBP Onkoseno ensured that the Food Task Force team would take firm action against rogue traders if it was found that someone was selling their goods above HET.

"Of course, from the beginning we have done education so that they sell at the fixed retail price, if anyone is found selling above the price, we will take action," he said.

Moreover, if there is found to be hoarding of basic necessities, the perpetrator will be subject to criminal charges.

"If found, we will take action," he said.

Previously, the Secretary of the DKI Jakarta Regional Government, Uus Kuswanto, explained the prediction of a surge in the need for food commodities in Jakarta ahead of Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr in 2026.

Ahead of Ramadan, there will be an increase in food needs with the largest percentage in the egg commodity of 7.5 percent, beef and buffalo meat 3.57 percent, garlic 3.57 percent, red chili 3.02 percent, and onions 2.89 percent.

The higher spike, according to Uus, is predicted to occur when approaching Eid al-Fitr.
