JAKARTA - The Supreme Court (MA) noted that as many as 3,353 criminal cases were resolved with a restorative justice approach in 2025.

The Chairman of the Constitutional Court, Sunarto, in the Annual Report of the Constitutional Court for 2025 at the Constitutional Court Building, Jakarta, Tuesday, said that the guidelines for the approach that emphasizes recovery instead of retaliation have been regulated in Constitutional Court Regulation Number 1 of 2024.

"In the settlement of criminal cases, the Constitutional Court prioritizes diversification mechanisms and the application of restorative justice. This approach is in line with the tradition and cultural character of the Indonesian nation," he said.

In the same year, the Supreme Court noted that 645 child criminal cases were successfully resolved through the diversification mechanism, namely the transfer of child case resolution from the criminal justice process to a process outside the criminal justice process.

"In handling child criminal cases, as many as 645 cases were successfully resolved through the diversification mechanism or 77.80 percent of the total 829 cases that meet the conditions for diversification," he explained.

In addition, the Constitutional Court also strengthened the alternative for resolving civil disputes with mediation and a simple lawsuit procedure. Throughout 2025, there were 39,520 cases that were successfully reconciled through mediation.

At the same time, the district court recorded a success in resolving 7,065 civil cases through simple lawsuits and the religious court resolved 348 cases of simple economic sharia lawsuits.

"This mechanism has proven effective for the community and business actors," said the Chief Justice.

Overall, the Constitutional Court and its subordinate courts managed to complete 2,937,634 cases on time from a total caseload of 3,025,152 cases over the past year.

The burden of cases consists of 38,148 case loads handled by the Supreme Court, 64,377 case loads of appeal courts and tax courts, and 2,922,627 case loads handled by first-instance courts.

"A total of 97.11 percent or 2,937,634 cases were successfully completed on time so that the remaining cases were only 2.89 percent. This achievement has maintained a productivity ratio of over 97 percent for six consecutive years," said Sunarto.

According to him, all performance indicators at all levels of the court, ranging from the number of cases decided, the productivity of case settlement, the timeliness of deciding cases to the timeliness of minutes in 2025, show an upward trend compared to 2024.
