JAKARTA - A man suspected of carrying a body wrapped in a sack in the Krendang area, Tambora, West Jakarta on Saturday, February 7, 2026 at around 18.58 WIB, turned out to be a victim of false accusation.

After being traced by the police, it turned out that the man was carrying a live lizard, not a corpse.

"Yes, the lizard is still alive. Because there is no money, he walked (carried the lizard)," said Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of West Jakarta Metro Police AKBP Arfan Zulkan Sipayung, ANTARA, Monday.

Based on the results of the investigation, the man apparently bought the lizard at one of the animal markets in the Petojo area to be kept. "Yes, it's in the animal market, who sells and buys. Want to be kept," explained Arfan.

His party has also met directly with the man in the viral video at his apartment.

"The police went to the place where he rented it, it was clarified. He was wearing the clothes according to what was in the video. Yes, it's true. So we didn't take it to the police station, just clarification because there was no violation either. He really wanted to keep it," he said.

Arfan also ensured that there was no criminal act committed by the man. "He just wants to take care of it. So the term for his work (the man's work) is that it can be said to be various, it does not settle," said Arfan.

Meanwhile, in a viral video uploaded by the Instagram account @infojakbar24, the man was wearing a black long-sleeved T-shirt, torn jeans and black shoes, without covering his face at all.

He walked among the residents' houses while carrying something wrapped in a white sack. The contents of the sack were what the person who recorded the CCTV suspected to be the body.

"This is the head. It is suspected to carry a body, I don't know who it is and this is the leg," said a voice in the video identifying the shape in the sack carried by the man.

Initially he walked straight towards the CCTV. Then he turned right, then turned left until he disappeared from the CCTV surveillance.
