JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government ensures that the availability of food in Jakarta is sufficient ahead of the Chinese New Year and the National Religious Holiday (HBKN) Ramadan 2026. However, there is an increase in demand for a number of food commodities.

Head of the DKI Jakarta Food, Marine and Agriculture (KPKP) Department, Hasudungan Sidabalok, said the largest increase in demand occurred in chicken egg commodities, followed by beef and buffalo meat, and garlic.

"Ahead of Chinese New Year and HBKN Ramadan in 2026, the availability of food in DKI Jakarta Province is monitored in a sufficient condition even though there is an increase in food needs," Hasudungan told reporters, Wednesday, February 4.

Based on the monitoring of the DKI Provincial Government, the increase in food needs was recorded at 7.50 percent for chicken eggs. Meanwhile, beef and buffalo meat as well as garlic each experienced an increase in demand of 3.57 percent.

To maintain the stability of supply and prices, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has prepared a number of steps. One of them is through the implementation of cheap food activities carried out by the Regional Owned Enterprises (BUMD).

"One of the efforts made by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government in providing food is through the implementation of the mobile cheap food activity carried out by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Food BUMD, which is expected to facilitate people's access to food at affordable prices," he said.

In addition, the DKI Provincial Government has also prepared a program to provide and distribute cheap food for certain groups of people. This program targets beneficiaries, including holders of the Jakarta Smart Card (KJP).

In this program, the beneficiaries can buy one food package containing six commodities at a price of Rp. 126,000. The package consists of rice, beef, chicken meat, chicken eggs, puffer fish, and UHT milk specifically for KJP recipients.

The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government hopes that these various food intervention schemes can help maintain people's purchasing power while suppressing food price fluctuations ahead of major religious days.
