MAKASSAR - The South Sulawesi Regional Police and the Bantaeng Regency Police and Bulukumba Police have dismantled a motorcycle theft network (curanmor) syndicate by securing 35 motorcycles, and a car with the suspect.
"Based on the eleven police reports (LP) received, there are seven LP Pores Bantaeng and Bulukumba Police. Meanwhile, the suspects in the crime of theft of motor vehicles are four people," said Head of Sub-Section 3 of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the South Sulawesi Police, Kompol Benny Pornika, as reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, February 3.
The suspects, each with the initials ABD (31) a driver from Makassar City, SL (38) and SS (32) as farmers from Bantaeng, and SA (34) a driver from Bantaeng.
"These perpetrators SL, SA and SS can be secured in the Bantaeng Regency area, by committing criminal acts in the Pangkep area (Pangkajene Kepulauan)," he said.
From the results of the investigation, the perpetrators said that there were still four people in their network who also committed motor vehicle theft and are now on the Person Search List (DPO). So far they are being pursued by the police.
For the acts of the suspects in the motor vehicle theft crime, they are suspected of Article 447 and Article 476 of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the New Criminal Code or the Criminal Code.
"The threat of a maximum 9-year prison sentence or a maximum fine of Rp500 million rupiah. Currently, the case is being handled by the Bantaeng Police and the Bulukumba Police. Later, we will update the development," said Benny at the Sulsel Regional Police Resmob Post.
He said, of the 35 pieces of evidence seized, 27 units were secured from the Bantaeng Police, seven units were known to the reporter (LP). Three perpetrators are already in the investigation process. Meanwhile, the owners of the other 20 units are still being traced.
Meanwhile, the remaining nine units were found in the jurisdiction of the Bulukumba Police. However, Benny said, only three were identified as the victims as the owners of the vehicles.
"So there are still six (units) that we are investigating, because on average these motorcycles have been disguised both in color and in vehicle identity. So for the time being, what was conveyed," he said.
For the modus operandi carried out by this average repeat offender, he targets vehicles or targets at night. After the victim falls asleep in the early hours of the morning, the theft is carried out with a T-shaped key. The proceeds from the sale of the vehicle are used every day and foya-foya.
Regarding the seizure, he said, while being investigated. Because the motor that was secured, on average, was used by the community in the village. it is suspected that there is a dealer.
However, the statement from the buyer of the motorcycle, bought from someone, but he didn't know. It is suspected that this practice is played by intermediaries selling to rural areas at low prices without letters, because they are only used in the village.
Residents in the village also do not understand and understand the crime of buying stolen motorcycles. The reason is, the villagers when they see a motorcycle at a cheap price are immediately interested in buying because they do not have a vehicle. Even though it is not equipped with documents such as BPKB and STNK or does not have a SIM.
"So, for the seller, we are investigating. The value per unit is around Rp2 million and the most expensive is Rp3 million. There is no (letter), it is not equipped. This motorcycle is used in the village area. The lock is also replaced with a new one, as if it were the motorcycle," he said.
