Two Children Killed in Landslide in Pangalengan Bandung

JAKARTA - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Bandung Regency, West Java, recorded two children dead in a landslide disaster in Mekarsari Village, Tribakti Mulya Village, Pangalengan, Sunday.

The Head of the Bandung Regency BPBD, Wahyudin, in Bandung, reported that the landslide occurred at around 14.30 WIB after heavy rain hit the area, triggering unstable soil movement.

"The landslide has a height of about 15 meters with a length of about six meters and immediately hit the residents' houses and killed two children," he said.

He explained that one house belonging to Ato with one head of the family consisting of four people was reported to have suffered heavy damage after being hit by the landslide material, and one rented house belonging to Dasep which was inhabited by one soul was also affected by the incident.

The Bandung Regency BPBD recorded two deaths in the incident, namely Aldi Alfarik aged three months and Rere Revania aged five years.

"The victim on behalf of Rere Revania was rushed to Bedas Hospital to receive medical treatment, but his life was not saved," he added.

After the incident, BPBD together with village officials and local Muspika elements conducted an assessment to the disaster site to ensure the field conditions and anticipate potential further threats.

BPBD appealed to residents, especially those living around the landslide location, to temporarily vacate the building, because the soil conditions are still unstable.

"We ask the public to remain vigilant, especially if it rains again, because it has the potential to trigger a follow-up landslide," he said.

In addition, the Bandung Regency BPBD has provided logistical assistance in the form of hygiene tools, work equipment, such as shovels and shovels, as well as basic necessities in the form of blankets, mattresses, and ready-to-eat food.
