KUNINGAN - The Kuningan Regency Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), West Java, appealed to the public to increase vigilance following the forecast of extreme weather in the form of heavy rain accompanied by strong winds in the next few days.

The Head of the Kuningan BPBD, Indra Bayu Permana, said that extreme weather could potentially trigger hydrometeorological disasters, one of which was falling trees that could endanger the safety of residents.

On this basis, the BPBD asked the village heads and village heads to take early preventive measures by inviting residents who have large trees to carry out maintenance.

"Trees with branches too dense should be immediately pruned. Meanwhile, trees that are old, weathered, tilted, and at risk of falling should be cut down to prevent losses and casualties," said Indra in Kuningan, Antara, Sunday, January 25.

According to him, disaster mitigation efforts need to be carried out collaboratively between the village government and the community to minimize the impact of extreme weather.

In addition to residential areas, BPBD Kuningan also increased vigilance against large trees along the road sections that have the potential to endanger road users.

Indra said that the BPBD continued to coordinate with related technical services to monitor and handle trees that were considered prone to falling.

"The pruning is carried out as needed according to the situation and conditions so that there are no subsequent impacts such as congestion and disruption of community activities," he said.

He also reminded the public to be aware of changes in weather that can occur quickly and unpredictably.

"The public needs to be careful in planning various activities, especially land, sea, and air travel, as well as outdoor activities such as tourism," he said.

Indra explained, based on the weather outlook update of the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) for the period of 22-29 January 2026, most of Indonesia has the potential to experience light to heavy rain.

BMKG noted the presence of tropical cyclone seeds 91S and 92P which were monitored in the Indian Ocean south of West Nusa Tenggara and the Gulf of Carpentaria.

"This condition forms and strengthens the convergence area on a large scale in the southern region of Indonesia, including Java Island, Bali, Nusa Tenggara, southern Maluku to South Papua," he said.

He added that in the next week, the activity of the Asian Monsoon accompanied by the Cross Equatorial Northerly Surge (CENS) is predicted to strengthen so that it brings moist air masses to the southern regions of Indonesia.

"Therefore, the public in Kuningan is urged to remain vigilant against the possibility of disasters due to extreme weather," he said.
