JAKARTA - The Minister of State Secretary (Mensesneg) Prasetyo Hadi ensured that the government paid attention and readiness to the impact of a tectonic earthquake with a magnitude (M) 7.7 that shook the East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) region, Saturday morning.

Prasetyo said he was coordinating with a number of related parties to ensure the readiness of all elements in handling the situation in the early post-earthquake period.

"Since this morning I have coordinated with the Minister of Human Development and Culture, the Head of the National Disaster Management Agency, the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency, the National Disaster Management Agency, and the Governor of NTT to ensure the attention and readiness of all elements in the early days of this incident," said Prasetyo in a written statement quoted by ANTARA, Saturday, August 15.

The government continues to monitor the development of the situation and ensures that handling steps can be carried out quickly if necessary.

Prasetyo also invited the public to pray together for NTT residents who were affected by the earthquake.

"Let's send prayers for our brothers and sisters in NTT who experienced a very strong earthquake this morning," he said.

The tectonic earthquake with a magnitude of 7.7 that shook the Flores Island area, East Nusa Tenggara, on Saturday (15/8) morning, was felt on Lombok Island in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB).

Based on information from the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the earthquake occurred at 05.58 WITA, with the epicenter located north of Mbay, Nagekeo Regency, NTT.

The coordinates of the earthquake were 8.33 degrees south latitude and 121.32 degrees east longitude with a depth of 10 kilometers.

BMKG issued an early tsunami warning for the earthquake event. In Sikka and Labuan Bajo, NTT, the tsunami waves were 0.19 meters and 0.36 meters high respectively. Meanwhile, in Dompu, NTB, the tsunami wave was detected at 0.17 meters high.
