Eliminate the Smell at Cilincing RDF, the Public is Asked to Directly Separate Organic and Inorganic Waste from Households

JAKARTA - The North Jakarta Environmental Service Division stated that the cause of the unpleasant odor in the Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) 3R Rorotan Cilincing was due to the mixing of organic and inorganic waste.

"Let it not smell, it must be sorted. Our household waste must be sorted. If inorganic waste goes to RDF, I am sure there will be no smell."

"If it is mixed with organic, it will definitely smell in a day," said North Jakarta Environmental Sub-Director, Edi Mulyanto, Saturday, January 24, 2026.

Edi appealed to the public, especially in North Jakarta, to separate the types of household waste to be disposed of first, do not mix them immediately.

Furthermore, Edi explained that currently his party has found more inorganic waste in the North Jakarta area than organic waste.

"Before the Covid-19 pandemic, there was more organic waste, but after the Covid-19 pandemic, most of the waste was inorganic," he said.

Organic waste, which previously reached 60 percent, after the pandemic actually decreased to 40 percent.

"Now, anything is 'message online, use packaging. At most, the food is small. So, now in North Jakarta, the inorganic waste is more about 51 percent and organic 49 percent," he said.

Edi also provided a solution related to waste processing through existing waste banks. For the residue from inorganic, it will be pushed to the RDF plant in Rorotan Cilincing to replace coal.
