The Head of the Palembang SAR Operations, Manca Rahwanto, said that his party only received information about the incident on Monday, December 28 at around 08.00 WIB.

"Based on this information, we immediately sent a rescue team to the location of the incident to search for the victim," he said in Palembang, Antara, Tuesday, December 30.

He added that the search had been carried out since yesterday and for the search method by dividing the Joint SAR Team into two Search And Rescue Units (SRU) and two sectors.

The SRU 1 carried out a search by visually searching the surface of the water using rubber boats and community boats up to a radius of 20 km to the northeast and maneuvering rubber boats in suspected locations.

Meanwhile, SRU 2 will conduct a search by diving if possible and will disseminate information to the public along the river banks.

"Hopefully with the various efforts we are making, the victims can be found immediately," concluded Manca.

According to information, the incident began on Sunday at around 17.00 WIB, the victim together with two of his colleagues were going home to his village by riding a getek boat after finishing working on clearing land across the river.

When they were in the middle of the river, suddenly the boat they were riding on experienced a dead engine which caused the boat to wobble and they fell into the river.

Two of the victim's companions managed to survive by swimming to the riverbank, but unfortunately the victim's body was immediately swept away by the current, causing him to drown.
