JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Environmental Service (DLH) has deployed 3,395 sanitation personnel to anticipate a surge in garbage during the 2026 New Year's Eve celebrations. Thousands of officers were prepared to ensure that the garbage was handled quickly and the city was clean before the activities of the residents began the next day.

Head of the DKI Jakarta DLH Asep Kuswanto said that the potential for garbage to be generated on New Year's Eve is expected to be lower than the previous year. One factor that affects is the policy of banning fireworks, as well as the concept of celebrating which emphasizes prayer together and fundraising.

"As many as 2,300 officers are on standby in strategic areas such as Monas, HI roundabout, and along the MH Thamrin-Sudirman corridor. Meanwhile, another 1,095 officers are spread across five administrative areas of Jakarta and the Thousand Islands. We facilitate the public, but while maintaining empathy and solidarity," said Asep in his statement, Tuesday, December 30.

In addition to personnel, the DKI DLH also prepared supporting fleets for field operations. A total of 17 cross-car units, 43 garbage-type garbage trucks, and 29 road sweepers were alerted to speed up the transportation and cleaning of garbage at crowded points.

"We have prepared all of these facilities so that waste handling runs effectively and does not accumulate until the next day, as well as making it easier for people to throw away their garbage in the right place," said Asep.

The DKI Jakarta DLH also prepared other supporting facilities, such as 24 toilet buses, 135 dust bins, 3,395 plastic bags, and 3,395 wooden brooms placed at the celebration locations.

This effort is also supported by cross-agencies, ranging from Perumda PAM Jaya which activates clean water tanks, Perumda PAL Jaya with a dirty water transport fleet, to Satpol PP and the Transportation Service for security and traffic management after the event. Disnakertrans also prepared four units of generators.

On the other hand, Asep appealed to the public to play an active role in maintaining cleanliness during the New Year's Eve celebrations. Residents are asked to reduce the use of disposable plastic and make use of the garbage facilities that have been provided.

"With the readiness of officers, adequate facilities and infrastructure, and community participation, we are optimistic that Jakarta's cleanliness will be maintained during and after the New Year's Eve celebration," said Asep.

During the Christmas and New Year holidays 2025, cleanliness supervision is also focused on a number of tourist destinations that are expected to experience a surge in visitors, such as Ancol, Old Town, TMII, Setu Babakan, M Bloc Space, to the Thousand Islands.

"We want to ensure that tourist areas remain clean, safe, and comfortable during the long Christmas and New Year holidays. We also hope for the support and participation of visitors, especially by throwing away garbage in its place and reducing the use of disposable plastic," concluded Asep.
