BANDUNG - The Bandung City Government has confirmed that until now the Bandung Zoo has not been able to operate during the 2026 New Year's holiday season because the government still prioritizes the completion of various existing management issues.

"For operational tickets, it's not yet, because we want to solve the management problem first. We will settle one by one," said Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan in Bandung, Antara, Sunday, December 28.

Farhan said the Bandung City Government together with the West Java Provincial Government also agreed to maintain the Bandung Zoo as a green open space (RTH) that can be used by the community.

According to him, the Bandung City Government will strengthen collaboration with the West Java Provincial Government to maintain and care for the zoo so that it continues to function as a sustainable green open space.

Farhan said that with an area of about 11.7 hectares, the Bandung Zoo is considered to have a strategic role as a green area in the midst of urban density.

He explained that the operational management of the Bandung Zoo was under the auspices of the Taman Sari Wildlife Foundation, while the authority for wildlife conservation licensing was under the Ministry of Forestry.

"Our agreement with the West Java Regional Secretary is very clear, this zoo must remain a public green open space," he said.

Therefore, the Bandung City Government ensures that every step taken is in accordance with the applicable provisions and authorities.

"The authority to issue conservation permits is with the Ministry of Forestry. The city government must be careful not to exceed existing rules," he said.

In addition, the Bandung City Government continues to coordinate with relevant ministries to ensure that the welfare of animals remains a concern, including monitoring the provision of feed and environmental management.
