JAKARTA - The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) stated that Palestinians in the Gaza Strip are still facing a very worrying humanitarian condition, even though a ceasefire has been in place for more than two months.

"In Gaza, conditions remain dire and humanitarian needs are enormous. Families continue to face severe shortages and widespread destruction," UNRWA said in a statement on the X social media platform.

Citing the latest Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) report, UNRWA said as many as 1.6 million people in the region are facing acute food insecurity.

"Gaza is still in a man-made famine crisis," said UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini, as quoted by the agency.

UNRWA stressed that its teams in the field, which also experienced displacement, continued to try to provide support to affected families.

The ceasefire agreement came into effect in the Gaza Strip on October 10 to end the two-year-old Israeli genocide war.

Since October 2023, the war has killed nearly 71,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children, and injured more than 171,000.

According to the Gaza Government Media Office, an average of 244 humanitarian aid trucks enter the territory every day, far below the agreement of 600 trucks per day.

Meanwhile, the average number of fuel trucks never exceeded five units per day, even though at least 50 fuel trucks have been stipulated in the agreement, so that the overall compliance rate does not exceed 41 percent.

The office also reported 875 ceasefire violations by the Israeli military, which resulted in 411 people being killed and 1,112 others being injured.
