Sumedang Regent Dony Ahmad Munir said the local government was concerned about the disaster and was committed to ensuring that all students who were poisoned received optimal medical treatment.

He explained that so far more than 100 students have had to receive medical treatment at a number of health facilities after consuming food from a donor in a pesantren activity.

Cimanggung Police Chief Kompol Aan Supriatna said the provisional cause of the poisoning was from catering food served in Friday night's study.
"The students experienced poisoning after holding a Friday night study. Therefore, the Sumedang Police sent an Inafis team to conduct checks and laboratory examinations," Aan said, Saturday (20/12) early morning.
He emphasized that the incident was not related to the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) Program, because the boarding school in question did not receive the program.
