JAKARTA - Ukraine's energy ministry said some of the power grids in the country's capital experienced blackouts on Tuesday, following Russia's latest attack on the country's energy system.

"The situation in Kyiv remains one of the most difficult at the moment, up to 50 percent of consumers in the capital do not have electricity," the ministry said on Telegram.

Russia is known to have sharply increased the number and intensity of attacks on Ukraine's gas and energy infrastructure in recent months, targeting power generation facilities and power transmission systems.

Ukraine operates three nuclear power plants, which generate more than 50 percent of the entire power, but the plant was forced to reduce production due to damage to power lines.

Lack of energy forces operators of the Ukrenergo electricity grid to limit supply to consumers, causing the entire area to be pitch black. Power outages also affect the supply of heat and water.

It is known that residents and Kyiv areas only get electricity for about 10 hours from 24 hours over the past week.
