PalmCo Prepares Batangtoru Gardens And Hapesong Become Emergency Standard Refugee Locations

JAKARTA - PT PalmCo has designated Afdeling Batangtoro and the Hapesong plantation as official evacuations for thousands of residents affected by landslides in the Batangtoro area, South Tapanuli Regency, North Sumatra.

PalmCo President Director, Jatmiko K. Santosa explained that this area was prepared as a refugee location with facilities that meet emergency service standards to ensure the safety and comfort of displaced residents.

He emphasized that the company has moved quickly since receiving disaster reports as a form of commitment to humanity and the protection of the surrounding community.

"The safety of citizens is our top priority. PalmCo ensures that all resources are fully deployed to deal with the impact of disasters and provide a proper shelter for the affected communities," said Jatmiko K. Santosa, in his statement, Saturday, December 6.

In addition, PalmCo also designated Afdeling V Kebun Batangtoru Marpinggan and Kepesong Gardens including the Hapesong Afdeling II, Afdeling III, and Afdeling V embankments as official evacuation areas. In total there are 5 evacuation posts in Kepesong Gardens that have been operating since the first day after the disaster.

In addition to providing shelters, Jatmiko said, the post also equipped tents, public kitchens, clean water supply, and food logistics. Humanitarian assistance distributed on December 4, 2025 includes 1.5 tons of rice and other basic necessities.

Health services from Sri Pamela Batangtoro Hospital are also fully alerted, including the provision of medicines, supply of clean water, as well as special health checks for mothers, children, the elderly, and vulnerable groups.

"The distribution of centralized aid at the Batangtoro Gardens so that the distribution process is more coordinated and efficient," said Jatmiko.

PalmCo is also coordinating closely with local governments and local officials to maintain security and ensure the comfort of the refugees," he continued.

The landslide that occurred on Thursday, November 27 night caused at least 14 houses to be affected, with 10 units buried and 4 units experiencing minor damage. The landslide material also hit parts of the Batangtoro area, thus requiring immediate response to evacuate and rescue residents.
