JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is preparing various price control measures ahead of the Christmas and New Year (Nataru) holiday period. One of the ideas that emerged was to overhaul promotion and digitization programs in shopping centers.

DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung revealed that he would hold a competition or competition so that business actors would be more aggressive in offering attractive programs for visitors. Pramono conveyed this at the High Level Meeting of the Regional Inflation Control Team (TPID) and the Regional Digitization Acceleration Team (TP2DD).

"I am now thinking, what if we compete for Christmas and New Year in malls. The first is digitization, the second is a discount competition. Third, the atmosphere of New Year's Christmas is much more lively with decorations," said Pramono in Central Jakarta, Thursday, December 4.

Pramono said that the competition has the potential to increase the use of digital payments, expand discount programs, and create a more lively celebration atmosphere in various malls. According to him, this step could have a positive impact on price stability and economic activity.

"If we can compete with these three things, I'm sure the first is digitization, we will definitely add more, the second is the discount, we can benefit from it to keep what we want, the inflation is maintained," said Pramono.

Pramono emphasized that the DKI Provincial Government is ready to give appreciation to the shopping centers, shops, or hotels that take part in the event. Pramono assessed that the preparation time was still sufficient to hold this competition before entering the peak of the holiday season.

"I am sure it will be very lively. For things related to the reshuffle of malls or shopping places as well as existing hotels, in my opinion there is still time," he said.

Ahead of the 2025 Christmas Day and 2026 New Year celebrations, Pramono also reminded his staff to maintain the stability of citizen mobility. He predicts an increase in tourist visits to Jakarta during the long holiday period.

According to him, the trend of tourists coming to Jakarta continues to increase, including foreign tourists spending time in Jakarta before continuing short trips to other cities.

"There has been a significant increase in tourists who come to Jakarta. Surprisingly, these tourists come to Jakarta for two reasons. One of them, when they arrive in Jakarta, they stay in Jakarta for a day or two, eat at Thamrin City, the next day they ride anUSH to Bandung, shop in Bandung, then return to Jakarta, the next day they just return home whether it's to Singapore or Kuala Lumpur and so on," explained Pramono.

Therefore, Pramono predicts inflation will be at a controlled level until the end of 2025. If you look at inflation's achievements until November showing a stable trend, Pramono hopes that the year-on-year inflation rate in December will reach 2.7 percent.

"Hopefully by the end of the year or December, inflation in Jakarta will be between the range of 2.6-2.7 percent and if we can maintain it, it is in accordance with the target set by the central government of 2.5 plus 1 percent," he added.
