Deputy Chief of Police, Komjen Dedi Prasetyo, ensured that fingerprint checks were maximized in the process of identifying victims of natural disasters in West Sumatra.

Dedi conveyed this when he visited the Ante Mortem Post of the West Sumatra Police at the Bhayangkara Padang Hospital, Thursday, December 4.

According to him, the fingerprint identification method is the main step to accelerate the matching of the identities of the victims.

"The team used the fingerprint checking method to speed up the process of identifying victims of natural disasters that occurred in West Sumatra," he said as quoted by Antara.

The fingerprint examination is carried out by identification personnel who have special skills, with high efficiency and an accuracy level of up to 99 percent. Thus, the identity of the body found at the disaster site can be identified immediately.

"If the victim is still possible to take his fingerprints, the identification process can be accelerated by the Police DVI Team," said Dedi.

For victims whose conditions are no longer possible, the examination is continued through DNA tests. The samples will then be matched with family DNA and tested in the DNA laboratory of the Police in Jakarta.

"The National Police's DNA Laboratory has qualified equipment, and results can come out in three days," he said.

Dedi emphasized that the role of the DVI and Inafis Teams continues to be maximized so that all bodies can be immediately handed over to the family for burial.

In addition, he instructed his staff to maintain security and order in the midst of the post-disaster recovery process.
