JAKARTA - The Kremlin has denied Russian President Vladimir Putin rejected the conflict peace plan in Ukraine that the United States carries, ensuring it is ready to continue negotiations.
Russian Presidential Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the claims that President Putin rejected the US peace plan were incorrect.
"No, it is inappropriate to say so," Peskov said, responding to a question about whether President Putin's claim to reject the US peace plan for Ukraine could be considered accurate, quoted by TASS (3/12).
Peskov spoke after President Putin held a meeting with US Special Envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner at the Kremlin on Tuesday.
"A direct exchange of views took place yesterday for the first time," Peskov said, as reported by Al Arabiya from Reuters.
Peskov further said Russia was grateful to President Donald Trump for his efforts, but the Kremlin would not provide direct comments on discussions with the United States because publicity is likely not constructive.
"Work is currently being carried out at the expert level," he said.
"At the level of experts, certain results must be achieved which will then become the basis for contacts at the highest level," Peskov said.
Earlier, Russian President Yury Ushakov's aide stated that a compromise peace plan for a settlement in Ukraine had not been found.
"Some American proposals (for a peaceful settlement) seem more or less acceptable, but need to be discussed. Part of the formulation offered to us is unacceptable," Ushakov explained.
It is known that the US is preparing a Russia-Ukraine peace proposal containing 28 points. However, it is feared that Kyiv and Europe will side with Russia.
European allies then submitted a counter-proposal, and in negotiations in Geneva, the US and Ukraine said they had created a "renewable and refined range of peace work" to end the war.

Ushakov told reporters after the Witkoff negotiations, Moscow had previously received 27 proposal points and then four additional documents discussed with Witkoff.
Last week, President Putin said the US and Ukraine had divided the initial proposal into four components. The exact content has not been disclosed.
