Social Minister Gus Ipul Prepares Huntara To Compensation For Sumatra-Aceh Flash Flood Victims

Minister of Social Affairs Saifullah Yusuf (Mensos Gus Ipul) ensured that the government would continue to carry out comprehensive handling of victims of flash flood disasters in Sumatra and Aceh. The main focus now, apart from logistical assistance, is the provision of temporary housing (huntara) and permanent housing (huntap) for affected residents.

Gus Ipul explained that the Head of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) Suharyanto would directly lead the coordination of the provision of shelters.

"Later, the commander in charge will be the Head of BNPB. However, it has become part of the planning to prepare a shelter and of course the permanent residence will be," said Gus Ipul in Jakarta, quoted from ANTARA, Wednesday, December 3, 2025.

The construction of this residence is an integral part of the assistance distributed by the government. Related coordination has been established with local governments, the Ministry of Public Works, as well as the Ministry of Housing and Settlement Areas to identify locations and plan developments.

In addition to providing housing, the Ministry of Social Affairs (Kemensos) has also prepared compensation for victims, compensation for heirs of Rp. 15 million for victims who died, assistance for injured victims and Rp. 5 million for seriously injured victims.

The Minister of Social Affairs emphasized that this handling is collective work. "The point is, this is joint work. This is synergy, this is mutual cooperation following up on the direction of the President," he explained.

The total assistance that has been disbursed by the Ministry of Social Affairs has reached Rp. 25 billion, including natural assistance and public kitchen operational support.

To ensure that food needs are met, the Ministry of Social Affairs operates around 30 public kitchens managed by the community and the local Social Service in the three affected provinces.

More than 570 Disaster Preparedness Cadets (Tagana) were deployed to support operations.

They are able to produce around 80 thousand packs of food every day.

After the emergency phase, the government will also prepare a further empowerment program for residents who have lost their homes, jobs, or livelihoods due to disasters.
