JAKARTA - Founder of the Foreign Policy Community of Indonesia (FPCI) Dino Patti Djalal said that the world is entering a new order of global dynamics, and this momentum requires Indonesia to take a role in designing the direction of the world order.

"The world is entering a new order. Let's take a moment to digest this reality: the next world order is in sight," said Dino when opening the 2025 Conference on Indonesian Foreign Policy (CIFP) in Jakarta, Saturday.

Dino said that even though the new world order was in sight, the world order would not completely leave the old order.

According to him, the old order must still be maintained, such as the United Nations (UN), ASEAN, and the Republic of Indonesia.

I call it the Next World Order, not the New World Order, because it does not completely replace the old order. Many things will remain and must remain: UN, UN Charter, Geneva Convention, UN Law of the Sea Convention, ASEAN, NKRI, and the number of countries in the world that remain around 200 countries, "he said.

The former Indonesian Ambassador to the United States explained that there are at least four main reasons that make the world now shift to a new order, namely the shift in global power distribution, the fragility of rules-based systems, the weakening of multilateral institutions, and the increasingly deviated world direction.

Referring to the shift in global power distribution, Dino highlighted the number of countries that signed the UN Charter at the time of Indonesia's independence in 1945, only 51 countries.

But by 2025, the number of UN members will almost quadruple to 193 countries.

He added that the world's economic power has changed along with the growing number of middle-income countries and the increasing population of the global middle class, which now reaches around 4 billion people.

"In terms of the global economy, BRICS now has a combined PPP-based GDP that is bigger than G740 percent compared to 28 percent" and that gap will continue to widen, "he explained.

The second reason is the weakening of compliance with the rule-based system.

Dino said that global trust in international law enforcement was at its lowest point.

While the third reason is that multilateral institutions such as the UN Security Council are increasingly difficult to respond to crises due to the interests of permanent members and the use of veto rights.

Meanwhile, regarding the direction of the world that deviates, he emphasized that the world is now losing its moral compass, so that the boundaries between right and wrong run away.

He added that almost all aspects were armed, ranging from trade, energy, technology, assistance, migration, education, media, to culture.

Seeing this dynamic, Dino considered that the current momentum is very appropriate for Indonesia to become one of the main designers of the next world order.

Indonesia's diplomatic power lies in the power of ideas and idealism. With the position as an ASEAN country, a member of the G20, and a strong reputation in multilateral innovation, this is the time for Indonesia to become one of the main designers of the next world order," said Dino.
