JAKARTA - The Class IIA Jakarta Narcotics Correctional Institution (Lapas) again thwarted the smuggling of methamphetamine-type drugs weighing five grams brought by visitors.

"The Class IIA Jakarta Narcotics Prison thwarted the smuggling of methamphetamine-type drugs brought by visitors on behalf of Fazriansyah," said Head of the Class IIA Jakarta Narcotics Prison, Syarpani, Thursday, November 27.

This incident adds to the long list of drug smuggling cases that have been thwarted by officers. For this year in the prison, there have been eight attempts to smuggle drugs.

Syarpani explained that this last incident occurred when Fazriansyah came to visit one of the inmates on behalf of Dzul Fauzi Rizky Halim.

When undergoing registration procedures at the front counter, the perpetrator's behavior immediately raised suspicions by officers.

When asked about his luggage, the perpetrator immediately panicked.

"In the front counter area, we only checked the luggage, but because his movements were suspicious, we directed him to come in and check further," he said.

Suspicion grew stronger when officers asked about the completeness of the data of the inmates they wanted to visit.

The perpetrator said he wanted to visit someone named Dzul. However, when asked about the identity of the inmates in full to the block or room of the inmates, the perpetrator could not provide an answer.

"If it is true that relatives or close people, they must understand the complete identity, starting from the name, bin who, what is the punishment, where is the room? His ignorance makes us sure something is wrong," said Syarpani.

The officers then took the perpetrator to the physical search room for a more detailed examination.

From the results of the examination, officers found methamphetamine weighing about five grams which was hidden in parts of the body that were difficult to detect.

"Untuk berat pastinya kami menunggu hasil pemeriksaan dari Polres," katanya.

Evidence was found in the rectum, in his pants and under his genitals. After being witnessed together, the package was opened and it was true that it contained methamphetamine.

During the initial examination, the perpetrator admitted that he brought the methamphetamine on the orders of his colleagues outside the prison. The perpetrator admitted that he received a salary of Rp. 1 million to deliver the prohibited goods to one of the inmates.

"He is well aware that he brought the goods because they have been paid. So this is not intentional, but there is indeed an element of intent and cooperation with outsiders," said Syarpani.

Currently, the case has been transferred to the East Jakarta Metro Police (Jaktim) for further investigation.
