BMKG Detects 6.4 Magnitude Earthquake In The Sinabang Aceh Sea

ACEH - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) detected an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.4 occurred in the northwestern region of Sinabang, Simeulue Regency, Aceh, on Thursday afternoon.

As information released from the BMKG website in Jakarta, it was stated that at 11.56 WIB the epicenter was detected at coordinates 2.72 degrees North Latitude (LU) and 95.85 degrees East Longitude (BT), or about 63 kilometers northwest of Sinabang with a depth of 18 kilometers.

BMKG conveyed that the data was submitted in the early stages as soon as the incident occurred so that it could still experience an update along with the entry of more complete data.

"This information prioritizes speed, so that the data processing results are not stable and can change," said the BMKG statement quoted.

The Aceh area and its surroundings are earthquake-prone areas because they are in the active Megathrust subduction zone, so BMKG urges the public to remain alert to possible aftershocks.

However, until this report was published, there has been no information from the relevant authorities regarding the impact of the earthquake.
