The Tanjungbalai Asahan Navy Base (Lanal TBA), North Sumatra arrested a man with the initials SN, an illegal migrant worker who was suspected of carrying 1.5 kilograms of methamphetamine from Malaysia.
The Commander of the Tanjung Balai Asahan Lanal, Marine Lt. Col. (P) Agung Dwi HD, said the man who came from East Java was arrested while at the Traditional Belacan Pier, Bagan Asahan Village, Asahan Regency.
"This success stems from intelligence information regarding non-procedural PMIs carrying drugs from Malaysia to Tanjungbalai," said Agung Dwi, quoted by Antara, Wednesday, November 26.
According to him, the confinement occurred when soldiers of Lanal TBA patrolled Bagan Asagan waters and found a suspected ship.
When Fleet Quick Response Team (FQRT) personnel Lanal TBA conducted an inspection, SN had left the ship using a small canoe to the traditional dock.
Officers coordinated with the ground team to carry out insulation and pursuit and arrest the perpetrators.
"The perpetrator was finally arrested at the Traditional Belacan Pier in Bagan Asahan Village. Evidence of methamphetamine was found in a modified bag," he said.
Dwi explained, based on the investigation, the perpetrator admitted to leaving Malaysia on November 19 after settling since 2018, and the perpetrator admitted to getting the methamphetamine from a friend in Malaysia with the initials MD.
After receiving the illicit goods, the perpetrators waited for orders from MD for the next handover process in Indonesia.
"SN admitted that he was only a courier. The methamphetamine type of narcotics was entrusted by his boarding house friend in Malaysia with the initials MD. Then SN waited for MD's order for the next process of handing over goods in Indonesia," he said.
