JAKARTA - United States President Donald Trump's peace plan (Russian-Ukraine war) is going in the right direction, but there are several aspects that need to be fixed to be accepted by Kyiv and Europe, French President Emmanuel Macron told RTL Radio on Tuesday.

"This is an initiative that goes in the right direction: Peace. However, there are several aspects of the plan that need to be discussed, negotiated and fixed," President Macron said.

"We want peace, but we don't want peace to be the capitulation," he continued.

President Macron further said that only Ukraine could decide what territorial concessions they were ready to give.

"What is being proposed gives us an idea of what Russia can accept. Does that mean that that's what Ukraine and Europe have to accept? The answer is no," said President Macron.

According to President Macron, Ukraine's first line of defense in the event of peace with Russia is to regenerate its own military, and there is no limit to that.

He also said frozen Russian assets were in Europe, and only Europe could decide what to do with the assets.

When asked if he was ready to go to Washington to help negotiate a better deal, President Macron said he had no plans to do so.
