President Asks For Acceleration, BRIN Forms A Capture Fisheries Research Center

JAKARTA - BRIN accelerated the move after the Head of BRIN Arif Satria received directions from President Prabowo Subianto. Arif said that the President emphasized the importance of research that is able to provide quick solutions for government strategic programs, especially food, energy, free nutritious food, Red and White Cooperatives, and fishing villages.

"We report on the short-term steps to organize organizations and support the government's strategic programs," said Arif after the meeting at the Jakarta presidential palace complex, Monday, November 24. The President, he continued, asked BRIN to present findings and innovations that provide new hope for the resolution of the nation's problems.

One concrete step is to accelerate downstream innovation with ministries, the Danantara, and Agrinas. The President asked Agrinas for food, palm, and jalintry to become BRIN's main partner in developing technology to increase national production. Arif emphasized that food self-sufficiency is not enough only rice and corn, but also protein: meat, chicken, eggs, cows, and fisheries.

In addition, BRIN is taking new steps. Currently BRIN does not yet have a fishing research center. God willing, we will soon form a Capture Fisheries Research Center," said Arif.

BRIN was also asked to strengthen research support for the garment industry, textiles, shoes, electronics, and defense equipment. BRIN has prepared the development of N219 with PTDI, seaplane production, and research on supporting Maung vehicles with Pindad.

For internal purposes, Arif explained the arrangement of the researchers' homebase, incentive studies, and revitalization of assets and research facilities that have been idle so far. The President supports the renewal of strategic equipment so that BRIN produces stronger innovations.

BRIN has also prepared a long-term research ecosystem to accommodate STEM graduates from Garuda High School and superior schools who will return from foreign studies. "We are preparing a research environment that is really ready to be used for work," he said.

Regarding the issue of rupiah redenomination, Arif ensured that it was not discussed with the President. However, BRIN will prepare an economic study as input for Bank Indonesia.
